Pope Francis celebrates Palm Sunday Mass in an empty church

Pope Francis celebrates Palm Sunday Mass in camera for the Presidency of Saint Peter in Saint Peter's Basilica.

Normally celebrated in the open air in front of thousands of tourists, the pope spoke rather in the presence of a small handful of priests and nuns and a reduced choir, all of whom maintained a safe distance from each other.

“Look at the real heroes who are revealing themselves these days: they are not famous, rich and prosperous people; rather, it is those who give themselves to serve others, ”he said.

“Feel called to put your life on the line,” added the Pope. “Don’t be afraid to dedicate your life to God and to others, it pays! “

Palm Sunday Mass inaugurates the start of Easter week, the most important week of the Christian liturgical calendar which culminates in Easter, Sunday, April 12.
