The Pentagon has declassified three videos of “unidentified aerial phenomena” which show strange objects running across the sky.
The black-and-white videos were recorded by Navy pilots – one in November 2004 and two in January 2015, said the United States Department of Defense.
The images had been shared informally online and were well known to UFO enthusiasts, but the Pentagon said on Monday that it had chosen to publish the videos officially.
One of the clips shows a dark circular object flying in front of a jet, another shows a small object that accelerates above the ground, and the third shows a circular object that runs and seems to slow as it approaches the camera.
One of the videos was filmed on the Pacific and the other two on the east coast of the United States, according to reports.
In one of the videos from 2015, a voice can be heard saying, “There is a whole fleet of them.”
Another voice adds, “They’re all going against the wind. The wind is 120 knots to the west. Look at this thing, man! “
The US Department of Defense said in a statement, “DOD is broadcasting the videos to dispel any public misconceptions about whether or not the images have been around, or whether there is more to the footage. “
They added that the videos had been examined to determine that they did not reveal “sensitive capabilities or systems” or “did not intrude on any subsequent investigation into air incursions into airspace by unidentified aerial phenomena”.
