Patriots release QB Cody Kessler


FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Patriots announced that they had released QB Cody Kessler.

Kessler, 26, was first signed by New England on September 25, 2019, published on October 15 and signed again on October 28. He has been inactive for 11 regular season competitions and the AFC Wild Card Playoff against Tennessee (1/4).

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft selection (93rd overall) by Cleveland in the 2016 NFL draft from southern California. Kessler has played 17 regular season games with 12 starts in his four-year career with Cleveland (2016-17) and Jacksonville (2018) and New England (2019) and has completed 224 of 349 attempts (64.2 %) for 2,215 yards with eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He last saw action in 2018 with the Jaguars, appearing in five games with four starts and scoring 85 of 131 passes (64.9%) for 709 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions, while leading the Jaguars to a 2-2 record. He went to training camp with Philadelphia last season and was released on August 30, 2019.
