Support is arriving for those who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19.

Residents of Richmond can start applying for the government’s pandemic emergency allowance this week.

According to the Government of Canada website, the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) will provide temporary income support of $ 500 per week for up to 16 weeks to residents who have lost their jobs or income. .

Those who have been approved for Employment Insurance (EI) benefits, claims will automatically be transferred to the new benefit.

The CERB will be accessible to Canadian workers over the age of 15 who must have an income of at least $ 5,000 in the last year or 12 months before the date of their application.

Workers must have stopped working due to COVID-19 and must not have voluntarily left their jobs. They are or expect to be without income for at least 14 consecutive days during the first four-week period.

CERB applications will begin on April 6.
