A teenager from the Hospital for Sick Children tested positive for COVID-19 and an investigation is underway to determine how they got the virus.
SickKids said in a statement that the patient tested positive for the virus on Saturday. Following the positive test, the hospital said it had also tested all other patients in the same unit for COVID-19, but the results returned negative.
Members of the unit’s clinical team were also tested and told to stay home while waiting for the results, the hospital said.
“SickKids is actively studying how the virus was transmitted to the patient and is working closely with Toronto Public Health. Currently, we believe the risk to patients, families and staff is low, “said the statement.
SickKids previously restricted visitors to one caregiver per patient in an effort to limit COVID-19 and began tracking symptoms of patients and visitors upon arrival.
