The financial sector helped Canada’s leading equity index post triple-digit gains late in the morning, while US equity markets were mixed.
The S & P / TSX composite index rose 112.65 points to 14,754.76.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 17.12 points to 24,150.90. The S&P 500 lost 2.01 points to 2,876.47, while the Nasdaq composite lost 78.19 points to 8,651.97.
The Canadian dollar traded at 71.46 cents US compared to an average of 71.16 cents US on Monday.
The June crude oil contract fell 74 cents to US $ 12.04 per barrel and the June natural gas contract rose three cents to almost US $ 1.95 per mmBTU.
The June gold contract fell US $ 10.40 to US $ 1,713.40 an ounce and the July copper contract was roughly unchanged at almost US $ 2.35 per pound.
