The Detroit Lions just drafted Kerryon Johnson two years ago, but couldn’t let another talented ball carrier pass Friday night in the second round.
ESPN analysts believe that what Lions get in Georgia from Andre Swift is a powerful runner who will also shine in the passing game and can manage his own in pass protection.
A fairly talented pick-up in 35th row.
“This guy is a half offensive,” said ESPN’s Booger McFarland. “He comes from an NFL style in Georgia. He understands how to set up his blocks, how to be patient and cross the line of scrimmage.
“Make no mistake, what he does best is in the passing game. You’re talking about a running back that runs the corner routes, understands how to configure the screens. You pair it with Kerryon Johnson, and now you have a 1-2 punch. ”
In 2019, Swift rushed for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns. He averaged 6.5 yards per carry during his career in Georgia.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper noted that Swift only had 440 runs at university while sharing the load with other talented runners, so there is “not a lot of tread on these tires going into the NFL ”.
“Matthew Stafford will love Andre Swift,” said Kiper. “His racing style is very athletic. Catch the ball out of the backfield. A complete backtrack.
Detroit should have two choices in the third round tonight, numbers 67 and 85 in total. The Lions drafted Ohio cornerback Jeff Okudah with number three on Thursday night.
