When the Giants picked total ball carrier Saquon Barkley # 2 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft, general manager Dave Gettleman insisted he keep the player as high at a “gold jacket standard” Which means that he should be able to consider any player caught with the second choice as the future Hall of Famer.

Before Thursday night’s draft, Gettleman has a similar philosophy when assessing potential players that the Giants could potentially choose fourth in the overall standings.

“Not only do you have to wonder if you imagine this guy in a golden jacket,” said Gettleman on Monday during the Giants’ NFL Draft official presentation. “You also have to ask your question” is this guy I think takes four worthy of being the fourth choice of all Rough draft?’ “

It is difficult to keep a player at such a level, since the caliber of players overall and at a given position will vary from a draft class to a draft class.

The value perceived by Gettleman of the player caliber available with a choice among the first five contributed strongly to the fact that not only did he never trade during the first three rounds of the project, but also influenced the giants who did not accept commercial offers for No. 2 choices two years ago.

The perception among current NFL leaders is that the Giants are “desperate to return” from choice # 4, but there is minimal interest at the league level to actually trade.

Could Gettleman be able to reach an agreement?

“We are really open [to trade]Said Gettleman. “But, I did not trade back, because I saw teams trade very good players. “
