Barton on KK
Joey Barton revealed his first awkward exchange with former Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan after his release from prison.
Barton first worked alongside the legend of the Magpies during his tenure at the helm of Manchester City, and the midfielder admits that the two men clashed towards the end of the manager’s term with the Citizens.
The former England international signed up for the Magpies in the summer of 2007 under Sam Allardyce, but quickly found himself in trouble with the law after a festive fight in Liverpool city center.
Barton was imprisoned for assault in May 2008 and served two months of six months in prison before obtaining early release.
Keegan had gotten a sensational return for his second canoe spell at St James ‘Park earlier this year.
“I entered the corridor and keeping in mind that I was in prison, so I come back for the first day of training thinking that I am going to train with the children here, there is no way Keegan welcomes me.
“He walks down the hall and left‘ I bet you were delighted when you heard I had the job! ‘ “
