Morning report: Israel Adesanya comments on Jon Jones’ most recent legal issues: “I felt bad for him”

Israel Adesanya and Jon Jones will probably never be friends, but according to Adesanya, you don’t hit a man when he’s down. At least, not much.

Jones was arrested two weeks ago again, this time for aggravating his impaired injuries and careless use of a firearm. Jones quickly pleaded guilty to the charges and received four days of house arrest and one year of probation. And while this latest legal snafu for Jones presents Adesanya with a golden opportunity to shoot his bitter rival, the UFC middleweight champion mostly refrained from commenting on Jones’s situation outside of a couple Tweets immediately after news of Jones’s arrest because, according to Adesanya, this would violate his code.

“I put memes because you have to give people what they want, but at the end of the day, there are things I said privately to my people that will not go out,” said recently told Adesanya to ESPN. “Some things worthy of a meme were not really kosher, even for my code. “

What started out as a respectful joke between Jones and Adesanya quickly turned into one of MMA’s bitterest feuds. Over the past year and a half, the two champions have insulted each other through the media, all preparing for a potential super-fight across the board. But even though there is clearly no love lost between the two, Adesanya said Jones’ latest arrest was not a cause for celebration, echoing Daniel Cormier’s thoughts on the matter.

“He’s a young black man at the top of his game and he throws everything away,” said Adesanya. “A lot of what DC said, the same thing. Like, I felt bad for him when I also looked at the images from the body camera. In the end, while he was sobbing, I felt bad for him. Because I can imagine myself in this position. And I bet you even in the back of the team car, he thinks, “F * ck, Israel is going to have a lot of material with this one.” I bet you. I swear to god. But like I said, a lot of things will never happen because it’s funny to me but at the same time I’m sad to see a young, black, skinny [expletive] who wants to have a career at the beginning like I am right now, and he throws everything away. So I took lessons watching a guy like him lead the way, if you will, and I won’t repeat the same mistakes. I will do mine. Sex tape down 2020! Be ready. “

That said, Adesanya was not above the folly of Jones’ punishment for his crime: four days of house arrest in the midst of a global pandemic that is already forcing most people to stay at home.

“Bro, we’re all stuck at home,” joked Adesanya. “What are you waiting for? “Oooh, we’re going to put him in house arrest. Oh no.’ “

However, Adesanya quickly backed away, saying that even if Jones’ punishment may seem light, it will still be a bad experience for the light heavyweight champion.

“No, he will suffer. I feel bad. In other words, I wouldn’t want to be in a house with him right now. That’s all I’m going to say. . . I said it in one of my quarantine articles, like staying strong because a lot of people spend time with their family and realize they don’t like them, and a lot of people fix their relationship with their spouse, with their dad, with their mothers, whatever, and I just feel like something like that is happening in my house would only dampen the atmosphere. It sucks. It sucks to be him. “
