The death toll in the United States exceeded 10,700 on Monday evening, according to the NBC News count.
The toll is increasing as Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country’s top infectious disease expert, said on Sunday that the United States is “struggling” to control the coronavirus epidemic. The number of confirmed cases in the United States has exceeded 337,000. Globally, the number of deaths has exceeded 70,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In the UK, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been taken to an intensive care unit for coronavirus, his office said on Monday. He had tested positive in March and was hospitalized on Sunday for more than 10 days of symptoms.
Meanwhile, an internal government monitoring report released on Monday said hospitals across the country are facing serious shortages of vital medical equipment – including test kits and thermometers.
