“More Burberry dresses to come”: a luxury brand turns to the fight against coronaviruses

LONDON – High-end British fashion brand Burberry has resumed production to make protective gowns for healthcare professionals battling the coronavirus epidemic, Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Friday.

Burberry said sales in the last few weeks of March would drop by as much as 80%, with the impact of the coronavirus already seen in China spreading to Europe and the United States, causing stores to close and drying up luxury shopping.

Asked at a press conference about the supply of personal protective equipment, which many health professionals have complained about, there is not enough, Hancock said. Burberry had returned its production to make dresses.

“Burberry deserves credit for what they have done so far for the nation and hopefully many more Burberry dresses to come,” he said.
