Memo from Peter Navarro warned Trump of coronavirus disaster in late January

President Trump’s business advisor Peter Navarro wrote a note in late January warning of the potential for a “full-blown pandemic” caused by the new coronavirus, “endangering the lives of millions of Americans,” The New York Times reports. The memo, dated January 29, toured the west wing at a time when the president was publicly downplaying the risks of the virus, although one day after it was sent, Trump approved limits on travelers entering the United States from China. A second memo released in February by Axios predicts a possible “1 to 2 million soul loss” in the United States from COVID-19. Navarro also detailed the expected needs for personal protective equipment in the second memo, writing: “We can expect to need at least a billion face masks, 200,000 Tyvek suits and 11,000 ventilation systems and 25 000 PAPR (powered air-purifying respirators.) “
