When you’ve gone through everything Mark Cavendish has faced in recent years – from a virus that has beaten his body to a related depression – locking up the coronavirus is nothing he can’t handle.

Indeed, it’s a Cavendish shredder that appears via Zoom – the path of all interviews these days – with gym equipment and an indoor bike in the background at the Isle of Man home where he stays in shape in the hope that something can still be saved from a planned recovery season.

This hope is a big problem in itself, outweighing the frustration of not being able to run because it had almost completely disappeared during the worst times when Cavendish
