Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was able to postpone its UFC 249 pay-per-view (PPV) event for May 9, but it is not yet known whether the card will become UFC 250. In addition, the location of the city and location remains a mystery.
One thing we do know is that Tony Ferguson will be fighting Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title as the window to rule 155-pound kingpin Khabib Nurmagomedov closed before Ramadan.
So when will “The Eagle” fly again?
“I think he may be back in August,” said manager Ali Abdelaziz to MMA Junkie. “He originally told me that the UFC had planned a fight in San Francisco, I think it was August 1. He can fight there, that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be September. But, as you know, (in) September, they still have this Abu Dhabi map and I’m sure the UFC wants him to fight there. ”
Nurmagomedov will face Ferguson’s winner against Gaethje.
The promotion was last seen in Abu Dhabi for UFC 242, where Nurmagomedov defended his lightweight title with a submission victory over Dustin Poirier. It is unclear at this time how the coronavirus lockout will affect the rest of the 2020 promotion calendar.
We also don’t know where Conor McGregor is in the equation. While initially promised a light crown crack later this year, the upper half of the division has recently been reworked to keep the assembly line in motion.
Still a lot of pieces for this 155 pound puzzle.
