Liverpool player targets Diego Carlos against ace of Naples Kalidou Koulibaly

Diego Carlos, the target of the Liverpool transfer, is known in Spain as “The Beast” – and has been compared to the center of Naples, Kalidou Koulibaly.

Carlos has been identified as a possible summer target for Liverpool, with manager Jurgen Klopp believing that the Sevilla defender could complete his back with four playing alongside Virgil van Dijk.

The 27-year-old has been linked to Real Madrid and Barcelona and has said he will only leave Seville for “a much bigger club” – but the world and European champions Liverpool certainly fall into this category.

And 6ft 1ins Carlos has been described as one of the top three or four La Liga central defenders this season, after being called a “revelation” by Spanish footballer Domagoj Kostanjšak.

“He’s a really physical player – he’s built like a tank and they don’t call him” The Beast “for no reason,” Kostanjšak told Liverpool Echo’s Blood Red podcast.

Diego Carlos has been a “revelation” for Seville this season

“He’s really good in the air and he’s decent on the ball too – you have to be under [Sevilla boss] Julen Lopetegui.

“He has been in my top three or four central defenders in Spain this season, along with Rafael Varane and Inigo Martinez – it was a bit of an eye opener. “

Carlos is said to have a £ 61m release clause – but while spending £ 75m on Virgil van Dijk paid well for Liveroool, Kostanjšak urged caution against spending as much for Carlos.

Kostanjšak added: “The release clause is generally higher than the player’s actual value.

Jurgen Klopp is said to have identified Carlos as the man to complete his defense alongside Virgil van Dijk

“I’m not sure it would be a smart sum and spending that much money on a defender may not be the way to go, but his performance was good enough to generate real interest. “

“He plays the best football in his career and he immediately settled down.

“He settled in perfectly and is certainly the most important defender in Seville.

“I would say there is a shade of Kalidou Koulibaly in him – not the same quality, of course, but I would compare him to him. “

Asked about his future earlier this week, Carlos said: “If I ever leave Seville, it would be to go to a much bigger club, because Seville is already a big [club]. ”
