Liverpool club said season is over after ‘clear majority’ vote to cancel games

Southport was notified of the end of its season after a “clear majority” voted to cancel the rest of the National League campaign.

The National League, North National League and South National League matches have been officially canceled.

The National League asked the teams to “support an ordinary resolution to end the playing season” earlier this month and the majority were in favor of the decision.

Non-league football in stages 1-2 has been suspended since March while stages 3-6 were declared void by the Football Association last month.

The National League has said that the options for deciding on the season – which would include relegation and promotion playoffs – “are being considered carefully and in a timely manner, and new updates will be provided in due course.”

National League chief executive Michael Tattersall said, “At a time when the whole country is grappling with the devastating impact of Covid-19, the cancellation of the remaining normal season games provides some certainty to our clubs facing the business implications of the virus. “
