Live New York Coronavirus Updates

In the future, patients will be assessed at the Comfort Wharf on Manhattan’s West Side, rather than in city hospitals, the Navy said in a statement.

And patients will no longer have to test for a negative coronavirus before being admitted on board, but will fill out a short medical questionnaire and have their temperature taken.

A Navy spokeswoman said an updated patient census for Friday was not yet available.

Governor Cuomo announced on Thursday evening that Manhattan’s Javits Convention Center, another military-run alternative hospital site, would begin taking coronavirus patients, a reversal of its original policy.

A Rockland County official is looking for a “containment area” to fight the virus.

The Rockland County executive in New York City on Thursday called on Governor Cuomo to establish a containment area around a part of a city that has seen an endemic spread of the virus.

The executive, Ed Day, is calling for the designation of the eastern part of the city of Ramapo, according to The Journal News.

Rockland County, northwest of New York City, has seen a higher concentration of virus cases than anywhere else in the state except neighboring Westchester County. He reported 3,751 cases of coronavirus, or about 1 in 88 people – much higher than the rate in New York – and 42 deaths.

Day gave few details on what a “containment zone” would mean, but said rules regarding social distancing from stores and funerals should be strictly enforced.
