Kobe Bryant left one of her daughters out of the Trust Fund. Can it be changed?

It’s been more than two months since the tragic death of Kobe Bryant and yet, for some, it still doesn’t seem real. Although his wife Vanessa Bryant is now facing the loss of her husband and daughter, Gianna, there are still a number of other issues to be resolved. Because his death was so sudden, basketball legend had never managed to add his youngest daughter Capri to the trust fund he created for his family in 2003. Is there a way to add Capri even if Kobe is already gone?

Death of Kobe Bryant

On January 26, Bryant was on his way to Mamba Academy with Giana and seven others when their helicopter crashed. Everyone on board was killed. Among those killed were Gianna’s teammate Alyssa Altobelli and her parents Keri and John Altobelli, basketball coach Christina Mauser, Gianna Payton Chester’s teammate and her mom Sarah, and pilot Ara Zobayan.

My daughters and I want to thank the millions of people who showed their support and love during this horrible time. Thank you for all the prayers. We really need it. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my worshiping husband, Kobe – the incredible father of our children; and my beautiful and sweet Gianna – a loving, thoughtful and wonderful girl, and an incredible sister of Natalia, Bianka and Capri. We are also devastated for the families who lost their loved ones on Sunday, and we deeply share their grief. There are not enough words to describe our pain right now. I am reassured to know that Kobe and Gigi both knew they were so deeply loved. We have been incredibly blessed to have them in our lives. I wish they would be here with us forever. These were our beautiful blessings taken too soon. I do not know what our lives have in store for us today, and it is impossible to imagine life without them. But we wake up every day, trying to keep pushing because Kobe and our little girl, Gigi, are lighting us up to light the way. Our love for them is endless – and that is to say, immeasurable. I just wish I could hug, kiss and bless them. Have them here with us, forever. Thank you for sharing your joy, sorrow and support with us. We ask you to grant us the respect and confidentiality that we will need to navigate this new reality. To honor our Team Mamba family, the Mamba Sports Foundation has set up the MambaOnThree Fund to help support the other families affected by this tragedy. To donate, please visit MambaOnThree.org. To deepen Kobe and Gianna’s legacy in youth sports, please visit MambaSportsFoundation.org. Thank you very much for raising us in your prayers and for loving Kobe, Gigi, Natalia, Bianka, Capri and me. #Mamba #Mambacita #GirlsDad #DaddysGirls #Family ❤️

Can Vanessa Bryant add Capri to the trust fund?

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ Sports, Kobe has modified the trust fund to include its children at each birth. It was most recently modified in 2017. But since Capri is not even a year old, it seems that Kobe never managed to add his youngest daughter to the fund.

In the documents, Vanessa asked a judge to include Capri in the trust, saying that Kobe still intended to support all of her children.

While it is difficult to change legal documents posthumously, experts do not think it is impossible for Vanessa to add Capri to the trust.

“There is a good chance that the judge will accede to Vanessa’s application,” legal expert Arminé Bazikyan of the Bazikyan Law Group recently told HollywoodLife.

“As an” omitted “child, Capri has the right to receive a share of the estate that would have been given to his” intestate, “Bazikyan said at the point of sale. “Which means that Kobe was dead without a trust or a will in place. This section of the law (Homologation Code 21620) is written exactly for this scenario. The parent makes a trust and a will. A new child is born. A parent dies without the ability to update their documents to include the child. “

Currently, the trust allows Vanessa, Natalia and Bianka to take money from the principal and income from the trust while Vanessa is alive, then the rest of the money will go to the children when Vanessa passes.
