Klay Thompson jokes with Steve Kerr when he meets Michael Jordan

In the third episode of the 1997-1998 Chicago Bulls documentary “The Last Dance”, Warriors coach Steve Kerr got very good quotes.

Here’s how he described Dennis Rodman:

“Everyone understood Dennis’s impact on the band. And we understood that he had different needs in his personal life than we did.

Dennis was weird. But I think what worked was that Phil (Jackson) and Michael (Jordan) understood that to get the best out of him on the pitch, you had to give him some rope.

“And they gave him a lot of rope. “

The main example of a “rope” was how, in mid-January 1998 – shortly after the start of Scottie Pippen’s season (against the Warriors) – Rodman had a request.

Let Michael Jordan describe the events from here:

“While Scottie was away, Dennis was such a model citizen that it drove him crazy (laughs). So when Scottie came back, Dennis wanted to take a vacation. I come to practice, Phil calls me and says, “Look, Dennis wants to tell you something. ”

When Dennis wanted to tell me something, I knew it was not something I really wanted to hear. So Dennis says, “I need a vacation.” And I look at Phil, I say, “Phil, what do you mean, vacation? He said, “He needs a vacation. He needs time to free himself. I said, “Look Phil, let me tell you something, man. If someone needs a vacation – on “vacation, I need a vacation.” We look at Dennis, said, “Dennis, what are you going to do? He says, “Well, I have to go to Vegas. ”

Phil, if you let this guy go on vacation, we won’t see him. You let him go to Vegas, we certainly won’t see him. So he looks at Dennis and says, “Dennis, well, can your vacation last 48 hours? And Dennis is like, “I have no other choice. I will take whatever you can give me. I will take the 48 hours. ’48 hours. You have 48 hours, Dennis ‘And I look at Phil like,’ You’re not going to get this guy back in 48 hours. I don’t care what you say. He finished. Okay, 48 hours. He leaves this room, goes directly to the airport. Boom. We neither hear nor see Dennis for 48 hours. ”

Rodman arrives in front of the camera, says “I went to the Fu – king Vegas” and starts to laugh loudly.

It was hilarious.

In case you’re curious – the Bulls won the two games Rodman missed.

So after 48 hours, he just came back to Chicago and got into training without any problems? Well, not exactly.

As Jordan Electra and Rodman’s ex-wife Carmen Electra explain:

Jordan: “He didn’t come back on time. We had to get her a– out of bed. And I’m not going to say what’s in his bed or where he was or blah blah blah. “

Electra: “There’s a knock on the door, it’s Michael Jordan. And I hid (laughs). I didn’t want him to see me like that. So I’m like hiding behind the couch with blankets on me. ‘Come on, we have to train. “”

What a story.
