Another day, another change in the main events. Jose Aldo was forced to quit his bantamweight title fight against division king Henry Cejudo, scheduled to take place at UFC 250 May 9, 2020 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This is according to a Combate report, which states that Aldo’s visa has expired and that the United States Embassy in Brazil is not currently issuing new ones following the COVID-19 pandemic.
While only verbal agreements are in place for the change of the main event, Cruz social media to roughly confirm the reservation.
“Dear Henry Cejudo, the real king has already been informed that we are fighting on May 9. We will meet over there. P.S. – Bring your other boyfriend cptdasamericas so I can slap you both, “said the former 135-pound champion.
The news comes just a day after “The Dominator” began his campaign to be Aldo’s replacement in case the Brazilian suicide bomber could not leave his home country due to travel restrictions related to the coronavirus. And barely 24 hours later, the hypothetical scenario became reality.
Although it is not yet clear where the UFC 250 will take place, it is safe to assume that it will descend to the Tachi Palace Resort Casino in California – possible UFC 249 site. There is still the private island that Dana White is trying to lock, but that seems to be reserved for international fighters.
If the fight were to occur, it would be the first taste of Cruz’s action in almost three and a half years, because multiple injuries forced him to stay on the sidelines, although he remained busy with his broadcast functions. Cruz was last seen spitting the 135-pound title against Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 on December 30, 2016.
As for Cejudo, he has not participated in the competition since mid-2019, as he underwent shoulder surgery shortly after becoming the last UFC champion by eliminating Marlon Moraes at the UFC 238.
While the fight is interesting to say the least, I highly doubt that it will suit too well some of the top five contenders, including Marlon Moraes (# 1), Aljamain Sterling (# 2) and Petr Yan (#). 3).
That being said, do you want to offer your predictions for combat?
