“Jaws” actor Lee Fierro dies of coronavirus at 91 – Variety

According to the Martha’s Vineyard Times, actor Lee Fierro, best known for playing Ms. Kintner in “Jaws,” died of complications from the coronavirus. She was 91 years old.

Resident of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., Fierro lived in an Assisted Living facility in Ohio when he died.

The character of Fierro was the mother of Alex Kintner (Jeffrey Voorhees), the second victim of the great white shark in “Jaws”. In the 1975 film, her son was attacked off Amity Island, and she approaches police chief Brody (Roy Scheider) and slaps him in a memorable scene. She also resumes her character role in “Jaws: The Revenge” in 1987.

During the filming of Steven Spielberg’s film in Martha’s Vineyard, Fierro was a theater teacher at the Island Theater Workshop, where she coached hundreds of aspiring actors. She spent over 25 years there as an art director and continued to help for much of her 80 years. Fierro moved to Ohio in 2017 to be closer to his family.

A small service, due to the rules of social distancing in place during the coronavirus pandemic, is provided by the Fierro family in Ohio. There are plans to hold a memorial service at Martha’s Vineyard at a later date.
