Horry County saw another death from the coronavirus, according to state health officials.

COVID-19 is now killing five people in Horry County, according to the latest figures released Sunday by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. The person was elderly with underlying health conditions.

There are now 64 cases in the Myrtle Beach area, according to the latest figures from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. This represents an increase of 63 cases on Saturday and 51 on Friday.

In South Carolina, there are now more than 2,049 cases of coronavirus positive and 44 deaths.

Health officials continue to stress the importance of hand washing and social unrest to help slow the epidemic.

Residents of the Myrtle Beach area continue to see the effects of decisions to slow the spread. Several types of businesses will be forced to close on Monday due to the illness.
