Horry County has estimated more than 500 cases of coronavirus

Horry County could have more than 500 cases of coronavirus, according to state officials in the latest estimates.

This means the county could have more than six times the 76 confirmed cases reported by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control on Monday afternoon.

Zip code 29576, which covers Murrells Inlet and Garden City, and 29577, which covers Myrtle Beach, have the most confirmed cases in the county with 10 each. Authorities estimate that there are 61 other cases in the Myrtle Beach postal code.

Postal code 29527, which covers areas west of Conway, was the third with nine confirmed cases and 55 estimated cases.

DHEC officials say the estimated case numbers are totals at the end of Sunday night.

Health officials released the data as Governor Henry McMaster ordered a “work or home” order and set limits on the number of people that could be in a retail store at any given time .

The postal codes for the Galivants Ferry and Nichols area have no cases reported, the data said.

There have been six deaths in Horry County due to a coronavirus and 48 in South Carolina. State officials say the state may know the maximum number of deaths in early May.

There are 2,232 cases reported in South Carolina and another 13,000 possible. There are 21 reported cases in Georgetown County, with an additional 129 estimated cases.
