HBO makes tons of free shows and movies tomorrow

There really has never been a better time to finally watch Thread. HBO has announced that tomorrow it will make a (solid!) List of free movies and TV shows to broadcast without cable or HBO subscription, as everyone should be inside their self-insulating home due coronavirus. It’s not full access to the entire HBO series and film library, but starting tomorrow, nine full series, 10 documentaries, and 20 films will be available for free streaming, or about 500 hours of content. in total. Some of the shows are, it should be noted, all-time classics.

There are a few notable omissions in HBO’s free offering. Westworld not included, nor great hits like Game of Thrones or Watchmen. However, the first two seasons of Succession and Barry—The two dramas with comedy elements that focus on a ruthless multi-billion dollar family business and a hitman who became an actor, respectively – are free and worth the detour. It’s also worth checking out if you missed them during their peak are two of the greatest shows from the heyday of television, The Sopranos and Thread. If it’s not your speed, broadcast Silicon Valley or Veep, the two acclaimed comedies that finished their races last year.

Perhaps the biggest draw for HBO’s free documentaries is McMillion $, a true and breezy, fun and refreshing, low-stakes crime story about McDonald’s monopoly fixing plot. There are also more traditional crime documentaries, such as The case against Adnan Syed (of Serial fame) and I love you, die now: the Commonwealth c. Michelle Carter. The documentary on Elizabeth Holmes, The inventor: in search of blood in Silicon Valley, is somewhere in the middle of these two in terms of intensity.

All of the films that HBO offers for free are, in particular, films from Warner Bros. WarnerMedia owns HBO and will launch a new streaming service, HBO Max, in May. Chances are this free offer is as much a tease for HBO Max as a coronavirus balm. Still, there are some good movies, including the rom-com bundle Crazy, stupid, love, the majestic epic of the Second World War Empire of the Sun, and Detective Pokémon Pikachu, which needs no explanation.
