The following contains the main spoilers from the CBS series finale. Hawaii Five-0.
Before CBS » Hawaii Five-0 finished his 10 season race on Friday evening, he had one last little surprise for viewers.
Concluding an hour filled with action and emotion during which McGarrett thwarted the pursuit of Daiyu Mei’s revenge for the death of her husband Wo Fat, the team leader of Five-0 responded to his need / want to get away from the islands for a stretch, to find an elusive peace for a long time. But while he was sitting on an airplane, waiting for takeoff, a very familiar face asked if the seat next to him was free.
“Hey, sailor,” said Catherine Rollins, Steve’s near-fiancé.
” It was you? Have you read the number? ” He asked.
“Mmm-hmm. Lincoln contacted me and told me you needed help. Therefore…. “
” He is a good man. “
” He must Catherine agreed. “You gave him the keys to Danno’s car!” “
“Well, I mean, we can’t let Danny Williams drive his own car. “
” Like never fact. “
Catherine then sat down next to Steve. After a few seconds, she turned to ask, “Are you ready?” “
“Yeah,” Steve replied, as he reached out to Catherine, and the two shared a warm smile before the plane started to roll.
TVLine asked Five-0 showrunner Peter M. Lenkov on the decision to bring back Michelle Borth, who was a regular series for seasons 3 and 4, and has surfaced over the years since – most recently in the January episode 2019 in which McGarrett assembled a Consumables-a team to avenge the death of Joe White. (In the meantime, our main post mortem with Lenkov can be found here.)
TVLINE | Talk about the decision to have Catherine show up at the end, because obviously you could have done it in two ways.
Yeah i could have listened to the fans and do not brought her back![[[[Laughs]Look, here’s the thing: I know the characters best, in my opinion. I know people will say, “Well, I watched the show for 248 hours, I know them. ” But I to write them, so I know them pretty well. And I fell that Catherine, like a good soldier, always put God and the country and her duty above all, and there were decisions that she had to make, which were difficult decisions that affected people whom she loved, who always came because of her first soldier mentality. But I always felt that she loved him. And I always felt that there was something that kept him away that was not in his control. I felt that his happiness was always by his side.
There is a moment at the end, if you look, where he turns in profile and he smiles. And it’s the first time you’ve really seen this man smile in a long time. Now he smiles at the jokes, but smiles at feel good about the future is a different thing. I think he could leave, find his peace, come back and find himself in this chair [on the beach] with Danny, but maybe end up with a family, finish up with other things that could complement him. Sitting in this chair with Danny is a great way to end their own journey together, but I think it has to be accomplished in other ways. He’s a guy who always saw Danny being a grandpa, so I would like to him to be a grandfather. I would like McGarrett to have grandchildren, I would like to see him lead a fuller life.
TVLINE | In your mind, where was their flight headed?
I never thought of that. I thought the idea that the show started with him landing on the island, ended with him leaving the island, would be the right thing. And again, it doesn’t go away forever! He’s just leaving to find some peace. But [contrary to Danny’s suggestion in the episode prior], he is do not go to New Jersey, I’ll tell you that![[[[Laughs]
