Gwent police officer in serious confession after repeatedly stabbed during coronavirus call

A police officer is in serious condition after losing a liter and a half of blood when he was stabbed several times during a call to the coronavirus.

Sergeant Carl Blanks, 47, answered a call at a house near Newport, Wales at 5:15 a.m. Thursday when he was stabbed.

The house belonged to Mohammed Ibrahim, 33, born in Sudan, who was found on the property.

Sergeant Blanks was stabbed several times in the abdomen before Ibrahim set fire to the house.

Ibrahim is said to have attempted to stab Sgt Healan after the fire started and to have received several pistol shots during the incident.

He was overpowered by the officers after climbing on the roof of the property.

The surgeons removed two sections of Sergeant Banks’ gut.

Gwent police said Sergeant Blanks was in serious but stable condition and “continues to improve” at the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport.

Ibrahim appeared in court today via video link, accused of attempting to assassinate Sergeant Blanks, attempting to injure Sergeant Leighton Healan and arson with intent to endanger life attempted to set fire to his house with the officers inside.

He wore a coronavirus face mask throughout the ten-minute hearing.

Cardiff magistrates heard officers Tasered Ibrahim but he recovered instantly and took out a knife.

District judge Stephen Harmes was released from bail and Ibrahim is scheduled to appear in Newport court on June 22.
