It comes after Gogglebox fans weren’t impressed after Friday night’s episode when sisters Ellie and Izzi watched hours of television together in the same room, even though they weren’t living together.

The sisters, from Leeds, were talked about on social media during the show, while disgruntled viewers hit Channel 4 for not practicing social distancing.

Fans of the series expected to see Ellie joined by her boyfriend Nat who had previously replaced Izzi during the coronavirus lockdown, but Izzi was back with his sister in the last episode.

A spectator tweeted: ‘@ C4Gogglebox I could be wrong…? But if we are 25 days of lockout as mentioned at the start of the program tonight … how are the sisters, Ellie and Izzi sitting together in the living room? #Social distancing ’.

Another said, “Ellie’s boyfriend was replacing Izzi. So how is it that she’s back and mixing households? God what I would give to see my family!

Another viewer echoed the same feelings and wrote, “How can Ellie and her sister visit and the Siddiqui boys don’t live together?”

“It doesn’t matter if she’s three feet apart, she always breaks the rules I miss like crazy, but isolates herself in our own homes without VISITING #stayathome.”

Another viewer said, “Ellie and Izzi dared to pressure Boris Johnson to talk about the pressure on the NHS when they clearly violated government guidelines for filming a #gogglebox TV show.”

The couple talked about the coronavirus during the episode, with Ellie asking, “What are we going to do when we have to go back to work?”

Izzi jokingly replied, “I am not, I have decided. I’m going to have to have another baby and have more maternity leave because the coronavirus doesn’t have bullshit all over it.

A Gogglebox spokesperson told The Sun Online: “Most families live together, but where they don’t, they comply with PHE [Public Health England] social isolation guidelines.

“Gogglebox will only film with families where it is safe to do so. The health and safety of our actors and our team are paramount. “

Under current guidelines, Britons are advised not to visit family members who live outside their homes in order to slow the spread of the virus.

The official board of Public Health England says, “Avoid gatherings with your friends and family. Stay in touch using remote technologies like phone, internet and social media. “
