Gefco has transported 750 tonnes of essential auto parts from China to France via eight charter flights. The shipments included turbochargers, pistons, control panels, doors and moldings and were piloted for the restart of assembly plants in Europe.

The logistics provider said it collected parts from several suppliers across China using road transportation, which were then consolidated and loaded onto charter planes in Shanghai. The planes were flown to Vatry and Charles de Gaulle airports in France.

Gefco said it has secured the storage of parts at local airport warehouses to ensure quick access to automotive customers as soon as production resumes. It also obtained customs clearance and other documents and set up a palletized delivery of parts to production sites in Europe.

To help manufacturers restart production, the company has shipped more than 2 million masks to ensure the health and safety of customers’ employees when production sites reopen.

“The safety and health of our employees remains paramount and I am proud of the commitment of our GEFCO operational teams who have been able to secure charters of this magnitude, while working remotely,” said Paul-Henri Freret, vice- executive chairman of Gefco. Air and sea. “The ability of our teams in China and France operating together on air cargo, warehousing and road to support our customers with critical-time shipments is an excellent showcase for our partners, Unlimited ethos.”

Last week, Gefco also transported a shipment of medical supplies on special charter flights from Shanghai to Bratislava to help fight coronavirus in Slovakia and the Czech Republic.

Gefco has chartered two Boeing 787s which have been temporarily converted to transport cargo. The plane was loaded with more than 64 tonnes of medical supplies, including 6 m face masks, 20,000 respirators and 8,000 non-contact thermometers, as well as 60 pallets of vitamins and food supplements.
