Galleries and small museums in France open from May 11


Some galleries and small museums in France may start to reopen as early as May 11, while the COVID-19 lockout begins to lift in some parts of the world. According to a report published in The art journalPrime Minister Édouard Philippe shared plans for the first stage of the country’s “deconfinement” strategy yesterday in Parliament. The reopening date will vary depending on the location and gatherings of more than 10 people will be prohibited.

Although government officials have not explicitly defined what can be described as a “small museum,” they noted that large museums will not begin to reopen until June 2. The Prime Minister also plans to identify high and low risk areas on May 7.

The Giacometti Foundation, a small Parisian institution that holds the largest collection of Alberto Giacometti’s works, plans to reopen on May 15. The director of the foundation, Catherine Grenier, said The art journal:
