Forward Greenwood and left-back Williams have both led revolutionary campaigns, becoming key players for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before the coronavirus ended the season.
But another teenager had to look aside while waiting for his big break – and Fred says he’s the best of all United youths.
The Brazilian predicts that his midfielder colleague James Garner has “a huge future for United”, highlighting his “impressive vision” and describing him as “an incredible passer”.
Garner made his bench debut against Crystal Palace in February of last year before making a first start in a 1-0 victory over Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League in October.
The English international under-19 has since played three more times in the competition, and Fred says there is much more to come from the 19-year-old playmaker.
“They’re all great players,” said Fred to Trivela, when asked about Garner, Greenwood and Williams.
“The club has an important role to play in using many of the academy’s players. He has this history of using children who come from the academy, who become professionals and make history at the club.
“This process is important. They are great players, with great potential for the future. “
Fred went on to explain that Garner was his choice of his group, saying, “All are very good – they are not in this business for nothing – but the player who impresses me the most is Jimmy Garner.
“Not only because he is in the same position as me, but because he is a player with an impressive vision for the game and a huge future for United.
“In addition to his impressive vision, he always plays head up, has an impressive shot and is an incredible passer. He’s a player I admire a lot. “
