Former Montreal Canadian D Andrei Markov retires from hockey


Former Montreal Canadiens defender Andrei Markov is retiring from hockey, agent Sergei Isakov has told media.

Markov has spent the last three years in the KHL and has played for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv this season.

The 41-year-old played 16 seasons in the NHL, all with the Canadiens after the club selected him in the sixth round in 1998. He was a double star in the NHL.

In 990 career games with the Habs, Markov has scored 119 goals and 453 assists.
