Ford is today unveiling the Cobra Jet 1400 Electric Mustang, a unique performance electric vehicle that they believe will “crush the quarter mile in just 8 seconds”.

It would not be the first time that Ford has teased us with a unique electric Mustang.

Last year, they unveiled the 900hp “Mustang Lithium” at SEMA in Las Vegas, but I guess we can’t be too mad at them now that they are actually putting the Mustang Mach-E into production.

Even if it is only a unique piece, we can still appreciate the technical beauty behind the vehicle and marvel at the performance of the electric powertrain.

Ford wrote about the vehicle in a press release today:

The prototype of the battery-powered Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 is designed for this purpose and is expected to deliver more than 1,400 horsepower and more than 1,100 ft-lb. instant torque to demonstrate the capabilities of an electric powertrain in one of the most demanding racing environments. “

Here are some pictures of the The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype released by Ford today:

If you think it sounds cool, wait to hear how it sounds. It’s crazy.

Ford released this video from the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype:

Ford says the prototype is “Projected to crush the quarter mile in the low 8 second range to more than 170 mph. “

The project serves as a test bench and demonstration of Ford’s latest work on electric vehicles.

Dave Pericak, global director of Ford Icons, said:

“Ford has always used motorsport to demonstrate innovation. Electric powertrains offer us a whole new type of performance and the all-electric Cobra Jet 1400 is an example of pushing new technology to the absolute limit. We are delighted to show what is possible in an exciting year where we also have the all-electric Mustang Mach-E which joins the Mustang family. ”

Mark Rushbrook, global director of Ford Performance Motorsports, added:

“This project was a challenge for all of us at Ford Performance, but a challenge in which we loved to jump. We saw the Cobra Jet 1400 project as an opportunity to start developing electric powertrains in a set of racing cars with which we already had a lot of experience, so we had performance criteria that we wanted to match and beat in this moment. It was a fantastic project to work on, and we hope that the first of many will come from our team at Ford Performance Motorsports. “

The project was a collaboration with MLe, Watson Engineering, AEM EV and Cascadia racing cars.

Ford says the The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 prototype will debut at a drag racing event later this year. At this point, we should be able to see it “crush the quarter mile”.
