Five-year-old child becomes youngest to die from coronavirus as 3,939 died


A five-year-old child became the youngest victim of coronavirus in England when the confirmed death toll reached 3,939.

The boy was among those who died in hospital after a positive test for Covid-19, according to the latest figures released on Saturday April 4.

Across the country, an additional 637 people, including one child, are believed to have died from the virus. The oldest patient to die in the country was a 104-year-old man.

All the families of the victims have been informed and the bereaved relatives of the five-year-old have requested that no further information be given.


The child had underlying health conditions, which were confirmed during the government’s daily briefing with Michael Gove.

NHS England added: “The family of the five-year-old patient did not request any information and we will not comment further on this. “

The tragic news came as the Midlands were proving to be the most affected region for confirmed hospital deaths across England in one day.

His death toll was 212 on April 3, while London killed a total of 127.
