The Atlanta Falcons have a pick in the middle of the first round in the 2020 draft, but the team would have tried to make a big leap before Thursday’s event.

The Falcons were “aggressive” in their quest to climb and called the Washington Redskins to try to get choice # 2, FOX Sports reported Wednesday. The Falcons are said to have targeted the defensive end of the Ohio Chase Young.

Young considered “too popular” for Redskins to consider trading in picks despite rumors last week about Washington purchases, says FOX Sports.

The Falcons have a history of trading to make the choice.

In 2011, the Falcons traded picks # 26, 59, 118, 124 and a first round pick in 2012 against the Cleveland Browns for their overall pick # 6. Atlanta used the pick to select Julio Jones.

In 2001, the Falcons traded picks # 5 and 67 and a second round pick in 2002 to the San Diego Chargers for their # 1 overall pick. Atlanta used the best selection to draft Michael Vick.

Atlanta has a No. 16 pick in the first round. According to FoxNews.com’s latest fictional project, the Falcons will take cornerback C.J. Henderson.

The Falcons could use reinforcement from the defensive side. The team was ranked 23rd in points allowed and 20th in yards allowed last season, finishing 7-9 and missing the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
