Everton’s favorite Tim Cahill admits Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta

Everton’s favorite Tim Cahill admitted he would have loved to see former teammate Mikel Arteta take the reins at Goodison Park.

Arteta left Pep Guardiola’s deputy director in Manchester City to become Arsenal boss in December, where there was also speculation that he might succeed Marco Silva at Everton.

Eventually Arteta, a former Arsenal captain, returned to the Emirates Stadium.

Carlo Ancelotti took charge of Everton and made a good start, looking to continue this momentum as he approached his first transfer window.

While the Italian has proven to be very popular so far on Merseyside, Cahill has admitted that he wanted his former Everton teammate not to be at Arsenal and to be back with the Blues at the square.

He told Sky Sports: “Mikel has always been a coach, even as a player. He was taking information, listening and always looking for other options. At the same time, he was constantly talking to the players.

“He’s a good leader and he’s someone I befriended because we had a natural understanding on the field, just because of his movements and the way he crossed the ball .

“We talked during and outside of training, analyzing the teams we would meet and we analyzed each other.

“I think he was in Manchester City was fantastic, but it had to happen. He must have flown in the nest and Arsenal are an incredible club.

“Unfortunately, he didn’t join a club I love at Everton with all the speculation, but at Arsenal, he does an incredible job.

“He has the attributes necessary to first change the culture, the nature of the club and the brand of football, and you can already see how the players are doing.

“It will take time because in City he was flying, but I can’t wait to see how he will flourish because he is here for the long term. “
