Dimitar Berbatov, former Manchester United and Tottenham star, urged Timo Werner to sign for Bayern Munich instead of Liverpool this summer.
The German has impressed RB Leipzig in recent seasons and has scored 21 goals in 25 games in the campaign for the Bundesliga third-placed team.
Werner has been linked to many major European clubs, including Liverpool, but Berbatov told Betfair that he thought it would be “reasonable” to stay in Germany.

Dimitar Bervatov thinks German should join Bayern Munich instead of Liverpool
“There have been reports of Bayern Munich’s interest in Timo Werner, and after playing in the Bundesliga, Munich is with its biggest names like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Barcelona, Manchester City, Juventus, etc. “Each season they are up there in the Champions League and they have dominated in Germany.
“To be honest it seems like a good decision for Werner, he knows the league, they know him there, he can get used to his surroundings a lot more easily. “
Werner has a release clause in his £ 60m contract, so it looks like an elite club will get it in the next transfer window.
He says staying in Germany will be “reasonable” rather than adjusting to Premier League life
The main problem Berbatov sees is the competition for a start wherever he goes.
“The only thing for me that I can question is that if he goes, he will have a lot of competition to face in Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman and potentially Leroy Sane, with whom they are also related, so he there are many similarities for one or two positions.
“But, as I said, it makes more sense for him to go there than to move to England where it will probably take him a little longer to adjust to things. “
Berbatov thinks Liverpool top three will be fine without Werner
Berbatov thinks Liverpool will be fine without the 24-year-old star because “their first three are so good”.
Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane have helped Liverpool take a huge lead in the Premier League this season.
In the middle of the coronavirus shutdown, it now remains to be seen how the current season will end.
Liverpool have suspended their contracts and recruitment plans during this period of uncertainty, which could leave the door open for Bayern to recover their man.
