West Ham director David Moyes delivered fruit and vegetables to local residents during the coronavirus shutdown.

The owner of the Hammers gave a hand to the elderly in his local village near the Lancashire seaside after responding to an announcement calling for volunteers.

Moyes revealed that he had already spent four days behind the wheel when he was still unable to perform his daily tasks as a football coach.

“When the coronavirus first struck here, I was in a fruit and vegetable shop in the village,” he said.

“There was something in the window that required drivers. So I volunteered because my wife was absent at the time and I was alone. “

“All I did was drop him off, knock and then leave. It was nice big boxes of fruits and vegetables.

“I thought,” This is great! “I really liked that. Go back to the store to get another lot, then fill up the car. “

The West Ham players have agreed to defer a percentage of their salary, while manager David Moyes and vice president Karren Brady will receive a 30% pay cut to help the club weather the pandemic financially.

Moyes also paid tribute to his team members and other footballers who also donated to the coronavirus rescue efforts.

“There have been many individual players who have made large donations to charities,” he added.

“Many have donated money to food banks.

“Some people give money back to their own country. Premier League footballers have shown real commitment and understanding of the situation we find ourselves in. “
