And after smashing their £ 5,000 goal this week, artists participating in the social fundraiser “DJs Unite” set their goal on a new £ 10,000 goal after overwhelming public support.
DJs from all over Northern Ireland will perform for a specific hour on various social media every Saturday and will start from noon to midnight on the same day.
The idea behind the fundraising task was created by DJs Paul Woods, Anthony Stratton and Connor Fitzsimons with Jamie McLucas, Alan Johnston and Chris Scott joining the team to help with the technical side of things.
Jamie McLucas told Belfast Live: “After the huge success of our first weekend, we are proud to say that we have raised over £ 5,000 with more weeks to go, so we are asking everyone’s support for try to receive as many donations as possible to help our absolutely amazing NHS staff.
“Some of the team members have partners and loved ones who work on the front lines as LPNs, nursing assistants and many close friends as frontline nurses. NHS staff are truly the unsung hero and we are all happy to help where we can.
“Honestly, thank you very much to everyone who donated money to the fundraiser. Many families are struggling financially by the minute, so it’s even great that people are considering donating. We really appreciate the effort that everyone puts in.
“And we have the tastes of our sponsors who have all been great too. “
An A-Z list of everyone involved in the upcoming weekend is announced at 7 p.m. Thursday evening on the DJs Unite Facebook page.
DJ Suitor, who performed last Saturday, told Belfast Live that most of the participating DJs were out of concerts or jobs due to the Covid-29 pandemic.
“There is a big void to fill now,” he said.
“And the fact that we were going to stream to an online audience was just great, but now that we’re raising money for a cause we care about, it’s even better.
“With DJs Unite, you have a 12 hour music marathon to listen to and the first Saturday was just fantastic. We just want people to give everything they can and have a little bit of madness at home with the sets.
“It gives us something to do and makes us feel like we are helping in one way or another. In the world of DJing, there are not many things that bring us all together, you are essentially a group of one man so the fact that it has brought us so many together for the same cause is incredible. ”
The DJs Unite Saturday fundraising concert will start at noon every Saturday for the next few weeks and can be watched live on Facebook or Twitch.
