NEW YORK (WABC) – For those left at home with no income, this is the conversation they are waiting for: news that as early as mid-May some workers are returning. New York Governor Cuomo said that ‘once the New York Pause Executive Decree expires on May 15, some construction and manufacturing may resume UPSTATE work only with certain precautions in place.

These are jobs where they cannot work from home.

However, in order for anything to reopen after May 15, Cuomo says COVID-19 numbers must be down for 2 weeks before May 15.

The plan will run in two-week increments. If construction and manufacturing resume without increase, the second phase could begin 2 weeks later, during which time more establishments and schools may reopen.

“They have to think about how they are going to reopen with this quote without a new quote. What precautions will they take in the workplace? What guarantees will they put in place? So it will depend on businesses, “said Cuomo.

The state has also announced that it will begin performing antibody tests on first responders and transit workers.

These tests would include the NYPD and the New York State police. Antibody tests are already underway on frontline health workers.

Governor Cuomo said he would make a decision in the coming days on reopening schools for the rest of the school year, saying that many of the state’s 700 districts were considering summer courses to catch up with the weather. lost.

In New York, the mayor of Blasio has formed a task force to develop a reconstruction plan by June 1.

“So many people rightly demand to go back to work at the first moment, that’s for sure. I want people to go back to work. I want to restart our economy. I want to see people go back to work, whether they work on Wall Street or bodega. We need everyone to return to work. We have to do it the right way, “he said.

A good sign of improvement is the drop in hospitalizations. This includes the USNS Comfort, which discharged its last patient on Sunday. The Navy hospital ship will travel to its base in Virginia this week.
