An employee of a Canada Post facility in Mississauga tested positive for COVID-19.
Canada Post said it received confirmation Thursday afternoon that an employee working in a section on the east side of its facilities on Dixie Road and Eglinton Avenue East was infected with the virus.
The employee was last at work on Saturday afternoon, the state-owned company said in a statement.
“We have informed the employees and, on the advice of public health officials, we have sent employees who may have been in contact with the employee to return home and await further instructions,” said Canada Post.
“We are working with the Peel Public Health Authority to provide any assistance and will continue to follow their instructions to keep our people and the community safe.”
The state-owned company said it is carrying out deep cleaning in the affected areas of the facility.
Last week, Canada Post announced several measures to ensure the safety of its employees and customers. This includes reducing hours of service and prohibiting people from signing for packages at their front doors.
Thursday morning, there were 362 cases of COVID-19 in the Peel region. Of these, 200 are located in Mississauga.
There are 2,793 confirmed cases of the virus in the province.
