Fernandes used his Instagram account to respond to invocation from Juventus striker Ronaldo that players see how many ab crunches they can make in 45 seconds.
Ronaldo started the challenge with an Instagram video posted with the caption: “Hey guys, I have a new challenge for you to stay active: the Living Room Cup. Can you accelerate and beat my crusher record? Show me what you have and use #livingroomcup #playinside @nike @cristiano so I can see you! ”
After launching the challenge to his 210 million followers on Instagram, Ronaldo takes the carpet to start.
“Hi guys, this is the first edition of the Nike Living Room Cup, I join you to see how many ab crunches I can do in 45 seconds,” he said, before going through exercises.
Ronaldo established a delightful score of 142 to beat – an incredible effort but perhaps not surprisingly for a player famous for his dedication to his physical form.
Fernandes wasted no time getting on the plate, but was unable to replicate Ronaldo’s feat, finishing 117 on time – a laudable effort in itself.
Fernandes’ message was accompanied by the caption: “#NikeLivingRoomCup – First week. 117 abs in 45 seconds. Not bad for a Sunday. Thank you for the challenge @Cristiano @nike @nikefootball Challenge: @jorgejesus @francisobikwelu @ martial_9 @carloschainho @cesartmourao @madjer_official «
Fernandes left a mark on Manchester United’s Anthony Martial and former Portugal coach Jorge Jesus.
Footballers did their best to promote the “stay at home” message during the coronavirus crisis.
The Premier League is currently suspended indefinitely, although the chiefs continue to hope to end the season.
