The Open 2020 championship will be canceled, sources told Golf Digest on Wednesday.
The report says the announcement could come as early as Thursday.
This comes in the wake of the US Open to Winged Foot postponed from June 18 to June 21, according to a recent report by Mark Cannizzaro of The Post. The tournament is scheduled to take place at Winged Foot, but will be played later this summer.
The Open, commonly known as the British Open, was scheduled for July 16-19 at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club, which is said to have hosted its 15th Open and the first since 2011.
The last time the Open was not contested was at the Royal St. George’s Golf Club 1945 because of World War II, according to Golf Digest.
