Boris Johnson invited his political rivals to number 10 next week to discuss how they can work together to fight the coronavirus.

The Prime Minister sent a letter to the leaders of the opposition parties, which he also posted on Twitter urging them to join forces to cross the nation during this difficult time. He wrote, “The coronavirus has been the biggest threat this country has faced in decades – and we are not alone.

“Around the world, we are seeing the devastating impact of this invisible killer. We are working on a step-by-step action plan led by scientists – taking the right action at the right time.

“We know it will not be a short battle – defeating the coronavirus will take months, not weeks. “

Congratulating the new Labor Party leader, Sir Keir Starmer, who was elected to take the reins of Jeremy Corbyn today, Johnson said: “We have agreed on the importance for all party leaders to continue working together constructively as part of this national emergency.

“I invited him and other opposition leaders to a briefing next week.”
