Tony, who played Kenneth du Beke in the ITV comedy, announced his appearance on the channel’s soap opera on his Twitter account.
The 52-year-old actor wrote: Yes, I can indeed confirm that it is true. I am thrilled to stay in my @itv house and head to Weatherfield and I, for my part, could not be happier.
“As a longtime fan of @itvcorrie, I am delighted to join the cast of my favorite show. Here is the next exciting chapter. “
A source told The Sun that his new role has been delayed due to a coronavirus and that it will begin after the lockdown is completed.
They revealed, “He’s a great comedy actor and created one of Benidorm’s most beloved characters in Kenneth. So it’s a shame he couldn’t start when he was supposed to,
“But he can’t wait to come in when things finally get back to normal. “
Tony has already hit the producers on Coronation Street for presenting a Costa Coffee shop on the show.
He tweeted, “Why is there a Costa Coffee on a cobbled street in Weatherfield ?? I am not happy!! ROYS ROLLS… yes absolutely! CAFÉ COSTA… not a month of Sunday !! Product placement has gone crazy! ”
The character of Archie was previously played by Roy Hudd, who died last month at the age of 83.
He was in the show full time for a year before leaving in 2004, sometimes appearing briefly as a funeral director.
He returned for a number of appearances until Archie was killed in late 2018.
