BEFORE CHRIST. federal prison locked out after 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19 – BC


Confinement is in place in a federal prison in the Fraser Valley as a precaution after some inmates have shown flu-compatible signs and tested positive for COVID-19.

According to statistics from the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC), Mission Institution has 14 confirmed cases of COVID-19. One test came back negative and the results of 21 tests are awaited.

The medium security prison has the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Canada, according to government statistics.

There is also a case of COVID-19 at the Abbotsford Pacific Regional Treatment Center.

CSC says it follows strict protocols, including improved cleaning and twice-daily checks of symptomatic inmates, to prevent further spread.

Meals are also brought to the prisoners’ cells.
