Basketball rookie top 50 J.T. Thor chooses Auburn over Oklahoma

Top 50 basketball recruits J.T. Thor announced their engagement at Auburn on Sunday.

Thor chose the Tigers over the state of Oklahoma.

A 6’8-inch forward, Thor was upgraded from 2021 to the 2020 class in early August. A month later, Thor narrowed his list to five schools: Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, State of Oklahoma and UCLA. He made official visits to Oklahoma State and Kansas, and also made a trip to Georgia. However, after deciding not to sign early, Thor’s recruitment has opened.

Auburn entered the mix over the winter and Thor made two unofficial visits to the Tigers campus. He joins a class that already includes five-star point guard Sharife Cooper, ESPN 100 goalkeeper Justin Powell and three-star forward Chris Moore.

Thor’s engagement could be the start of a busy few weeks for Auburn. The Tigers are still heavily involved for Jalen Green, senior number one and Greg Brown, the top 10, who will announce their decisions over the next two weeks. Bruce Pearl hopes to recharge after the departure of five seniors from last season’s 25-game team.

Thor split last spring and summer between the Nike and Adidas circuits, averaging 8.6 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
