Barry Hearn suffered a minor heart attack but returns from hospital “in a good mood,” said the son of sports promoter Eddie Hearn.

The president of Matchroom Sports, the Professional Darts Corporation and World Snooker, 71, was operated on Tuesday and is now recovering.

Eddie Hearn, boxing promoter and general manager of Matchroom, thanked the NHS for their care in a social media post on Wednesday.

“He’s fine and going home today in a good mood,” Eddie Hearn tweeted about his father.

Barry Hearn made a name for himself by promoting the snooker in the 1980s before entering boxing where he notably promoted Frank Bruno and Chris Eubank.

He is now focused on darts and has made the sport a big hit with big names like Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and Michael van Gerwen.

He remains involved in boxing as his son Eddie promotes Anthony Joshua, Dillian Whyte and many others in Britain and the United States.

Best wishes from the world of sport
