Making movies and TV can often be a secret business, especially in the genre nerds where fans are keen to learn the ins and outs of production as soon as they can. Sometimes that means a little prank and that even the actors don’t know the parts they are really auditioning for. For a Star trek diehards like Anson Mount, which lead to a wonderful surprise.
Mount played the original hero of Star trek, Captain Pike, during DiscoverySecond season, breathing life into a role mainly known in the original hiking the tradition of Pike’s time on board of Company was cut short when Star trekThe pilot’s room was reworked, and the character only came back later as horribly marked, mute and trauma from an accident. Play a version of Pike which temporarily requisitioned the Discovery on a mission to save the galaxy from mysterious signals popping up all over space, Pike’s iteration of Mount was so well received that fans have practically begged to see him get his own spin-off ever since.
But it’s just as happy that Mount himself is as much hiking geek like the rest of us, proudly wearing hest fandom on his sleeves whenever he talks about his time in the franchise. It was a fandom that led to his incredibly cute reaction to the series’ auditions, according to a new interview he conducted with Space.com. “In fact, I was talking to them earlier in the year about the role of Captain Lorca, then they hired very wisely Jason Isaacs, who was great and did a much better job than I could ever have done, “remembers Mount. “But then when Pike came, they called and said,” Hey, there’s this other role, a new captain, would you mind registering? ”

But the secret around the return of a classic hiking character-one of many appear in DiscoverySecond season, which also included Ethan Peck as a young Spock, and Rebecca Romijin as another cut pilot character, the number one female aboard the Company– meant that even an unconditional fan like Mount didn’t know exactly who he was auditioning to play. “They sent me dummy scripts,” said the actor. “So the character name on the dummy scripts was Captain Parker. And I thought, “Well, this is a terribly unimaginative name for a captain. Very good. I will do it. “And I checked in, and then they called the next day and said,” Okay, do it and it’s Captain Pike. And I almost fell from my seat! “
From a seat, it seems, and in a much more chic style of aptain than he would have expected.
