Figures show that 248 people have died in hospitals covered by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to date, Sunday April 26.

A total of 924 people whose coronavirus tested positive died in hospital trusts in the Northeast.

The NHS also confirmed that 22 other cases have been confirmed in south Tyneside, with a total of 486 now reported.

Across the region, the total was 6,931, an increase of 159.

Nationally, the NHS England said that another 336 people who tested positive for the coronavirus died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 18,420.

The patients were 28 to 10 years old, and of these, 22 41 to 94 years old had no known underlying health conditions.

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 166

Number of deaths announced on April 26: 0

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 77

Number of deaths announced on April 26: 1

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 150

Number of deaths announced on April 26: 7

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 91

According to the latest figures released by Public Health England on Sunday April 26, there are 6,931 confirmed cases in the North East as follows:

Of the 21 deaths recorded as of Wednesday April 1, 17 have been treated in Sunderland and four in South Tyneside.
